It’s CUPPA Season again and things took off with a bang at different Shoprite/Checkers venues around the Welkom and Virginia areas.  Before the end of June 12 Cuppas For CANSA would have taken place and we are extremely grateful to Shoprite/Checkers for their enthusiastic partnership in this great event.

For the Welkom Cuppa, Shoprite/Checkers sponsored two delicious, freshly baked cream cakes and also served coffee and tea, while two of their staff members assisted us with the serving and washing up. Around 150 people visited our stall and listened to our Health messages. Some sat at tables enjoying their coffee and cake, but for others is was grap and run!  

In the middle of June it was the turn of Shoprite/Checkers at the Goldfields Mall where two volunteers, Hester Erasmus & Elna Pearson, assisted with making hot drinks and addressing customers, while Shoprite/Checkers staff members made pancakes for the occasion. The owner of the Oasis Restaurant, Pieter Holtzhausen, donatel 10 liters of mineral water and loaned us a hot/cold water dispenser for use on the day. This kind of support gave our energy levels a kick-start and helped us get through a busy day.

The third event was on 16th June at the Shoprite/Checkers in town.  Ria Gericke and other volunteers assisted us, with Shoprite/Checkers providing 200 mouth-watering funky-coloured cupcakes with the coffee and tea.  Next door to our stall was a lady selling pancakes as she regularly does on a Saturday, providing unforeseen opposition to our endeavours.  During her lunch break our cupcakes sold like hot cakes - one customer taking almost 50 cupcakes to our great delight!

Virginia's Shoprite/Checkers presented their Cuppa on the 15th June with volunteers Alta Uys and Cecile Engelbrecht hosting the event for us.  Pancakes, appetizing cupcakes, coffee and tea were served and many happy customers were eager to be part of the Cuppa.

To follow on the above events for the rest of June were Cuppas at the Goldfields Mall, Virgina and Welkom town and our expectation is that they will be as well supported as the previous ones.  Our special thanks to all those who assisted the CANSA staff, Aubrey Mofolo and Lauden McFarlane (the two new Community Mobilizers in the Welkom/Parys region) to survive our first Cuppas For CANSA - and have so much fun at the same time!
